He obtained MBBS degree from University of Madras, Chennai in 1990; MD in Preventive and Social Medicine from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore in 2003 and had been pursued M.Phil. (Hospital and Health Systems Mgmt) from BITS, Pilani, Rajasthan.

He was working as an Epidemiologist at Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC), Puducherry for over seventeen years. He was involved in several research projects on vector borne diseases with reference to lymphatic filariasis. He was one of the leading members of the team involved in carrying out studies in the field of lymphatic filariasis in India. He has immensely contributed to the understanding of natural history; transmission control with mass drug administration, and morbidity control with limb hygiene in filarial lymphoedema. The results of the projects in which he has worked has influenced the policy of the government in implementing the filariasis elimination programme in India.

He joined National Institute of Epidemiology in December 2009 on transfer and is a faculty for two-year Master of Public Health (Epidemiology and Health Systems) Programme. He is currently working in the Division of Epidemiology and Surveillance and is the Co- Principal Investigator and Nodal Officer for the "Hospital Based Sentinel Surveillance for Bacterial Meningitis in India" project funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India and Principal Investigator for studies relating to Tribal Health.
