About the course

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Virtual Centre Clinical Pharmacology (NvCCP) Prescribing Skills course for Indian Medical Graduates has been launched to improve the prescription practices in India.

“Prescribing skill” has been recognized by the NMC-National Medical Commission (earlier known as Medical Council of India), as a “Must Know” entity in its curriculum for Medical Graduates. A pilot study conducted among first-year resident doctors on the assessment of prescribing skills revealed the unpreparedness for the rational prescription. Inappropriate prescribing results in insufficient or delayed recovery, increased risk of preventable harm/adverse drug reaction, development of antimicrobial resistance, and increased cost of therapy to the patient.

Considering the inadequacies of Prescribing Skills in India, Dr. Balram Bhargava, Secretary to the Govt. of India and Director General, ICMR, Dept. of Health Research is delighted to launch this course on Prescribing skills for Indian Medical Graduates (IMG). This course is coordinated by ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology and offered through SWAYAM-AICTE under the Ministry of Education

What is unique?

This online course (which can be accessed as per the IMG's convenience and speed) consists of 40 video lectures with presentations and is practical case based as per NMC curriculum.

It has been developed by experts of pharmacology, clinical disciplines, preventive social medicine of 15 ICMR Rational use of Medicines centers from top medical colleges all over India.

What will you learn?

The course videos demonstrating specific skills, assignments and additional material for enhanced learning has been reviewed by ICMR-TAG and clinical experts from Delhi and Mumbai.
