Isolation of new mosquitocidal bacteria from various environmental sources such as Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, B.cereus, B.subtilis, B.fusiformis, B.mobilis for mosquito control were studied.

  • The mosquitocidal toxins from newly isolated bacterial agents were characterized.
  • The extra cellular toxins from culture free medium of mosquitocidal bacteria was tested through oviposition attraction. The results are promising.

  • Identification and characterization of specific mosquitocidal toxin (s) from newly isolated bacterial strains Bacillus subtilis VCRC-B622 and Bacillus mobilis VCRC-633 for mosquito control
Significant research findings/contributions
  • Re-cycling of solid waste from the environment on the production of bio-pesticides (Bacillus sphaericus & Bti) to control mosquito vectors.
  • ‘Chicken feather waste’ was recommended for first time as cost-effective source for bio-pesticide production in mosquito control.
  • Bacterial culture supernatant was reported for first time to attract and kill mosquito larvae (Oviposition attraction).
  • New bacterial strain from marine soil (Bacillus cereus) was isolated for control of mosquito vectors.
  • Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles from plant for the control of mosquito vectors.
